Cloud: Google Drive’s paid storage offers become Google One

There are changes in Google’s cloud storage offering. The Mountain View company announces the launch of Google One. Between startup (of a new offer), reorganization (of the storage offer of Google), renaming and updates, the confusion could quickly settle in the minds, but here is how it all intertwines.

First, Google One is a new offer whose wording does not concern users of the G Suite. In the numbers, the Google One plans will start at 100 GB for $ 1.99, 200 GB for $ 2.99 and 2 TB for $ 9.99 per month. Rates for packages over 2TB, for their part, will remain unchanged from those of the current paid Google Drive. Finally, as part of Google One, there is no storage option to 1 TB.

Secondly, Google Drive continues to exist; at least, the free offer that allows users to enjoy a storage of 15 GB. However, all users who have subscribed to a premium option will benefit from an update to the Google One offer. For example, those users
who subscribed to the 1TB offer for $ 9.99 per month will see their storage space migrate to the 2TB under Google One. Note about the 2TB storage space that it goes from $ 19.99 a month under Google Drive premium to $ 9.99 on Google One, a drop of approximately 50%.

No need to go back to storage space, which is de facto Google’s first marketing anchor. As an additional argument, the Mountain View firm emphasizes the possibility of sharing its storage space with members of his family. The technology company specifies that it will be possible to do this with up to 5 users. In addition, there is the real-time support that lands on the service, even for offers of 100 GB for $ 1.99 per month. According to The Verge magazine, this is a first for non-G Suite consumers.

With Google One, the company promises “much more [than storage] with just one package to share. We see the future service as a kind of crossroads, a kind of extension of Google Drive now cropped in its role of synchronization service and file storage. The Mountain View company is also talking about the possibility of benefiting from Google Search from Google One.

The service does not start immediately. Google will migrate users of Google’s premium offer in the coming months starting with the US. It will then be time for expansion on a global scale.
