It is clear that the more powerful a motherboard with its CPU is, the more powerful the computer using it will be. This state of affairs justifies the permanent and continuous nature of the research to improve the performance of the motherboards and therefore, in turn, computers. One of the major chip makers, the American giant Intel in competition to AMD, is working tirelessly to improve the quality of its products. It is with this in mind that the idea of the Intel Z390 platform has emerged. Some information on the latter model has just been leaked. And, in light of these leaks, the product seems rather exceptional.

The Intel Z390 motherboard series will be clearly subdivided into three sub-classes: the i9, i7 and i5 variants. Regarding the i9 variant, it has an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, and therefore, should logically have more cores than the i7 variant. It seems that in order to compete with AMD’s Ryzen processors, Intel’s i9-9900K processor has eight cores and sixteen threads. This choice could be wise, since Intel does not yet have eight-core processors on the market, unlike the AMD rival.

The i7 variant is equipped with the Intel Core i7-9700K processor. This processor model comes with six cores and twelve threads. With six cores and six threads, the Intel Core i5-9600K processor that is equipped with the i5 variant is relatively less attractive than the others. But do not be deceived. These three models were designed with the goal of standing up to AMD’s best-performing products on the market. This is the first time that Intel’s consumer product line has no quad-core processor. There are no three-core processors either. Which would mean that Intel executives renounce to include i3 processors in the mainstream, or they have in mind a phased launch program for this class of processors.

It would be clearly counterproductive for Intel not to commercialize quad-core processors, since in view of expected yields, quad core could be one of the most profitable opportunities for the US firm. It should be noted that compared to the Z370 motherboards that preceded them, the new Z390s do not make a big step forward. They present a set of features (Intel Wireless-AC 802.11 AC, Bluetooth 5.0, Intel Wireless-AC adapter) that have recently appeared on entry-level products, but not on the Z370. In addition to these features, the new Z390s have the ability to support up to six second generation USB 3.1 ports.
