Should We Blame Google over New Phase of Chrome Firefox War?

The war between two popular web browsers of Firefox and Google Chrome has unfortunately entered an annoying phase for the users. It’s now normal for the Firefox to call itself faster than Chrome by 2X – clearly calling on Chrome as a lazy browser – and for Chrome to block Mozilla.org as an insecure website with privacy error!!!

Recently, when we checked the download page of Firefox, we found some sort of blame on Google Chrome browser by calling it as slow as half of Firefox. Here, we have the screenshot taken on 25/05/2018. On the other hand, Google did even more. You won’t guess what! Google called https://mozilla.org an insecure website that might be a platform for the attackers to steal users sensitive information including passwords and more! This was checked by several platforms/devices to ensure a valid result but all ended in the same error. In fact, Google war on Firefox is unfair mostly now that it owns the majority of browsers share against Mozilla which has done too much to improve every one’s experience of an open internet. Here the screen shot shows this privacy error while we tried to access https://mozilla.org using Google Chrome on 25/05/2018.

Google war on Mozilla goes beyond a simple competition.
Google Chrome blocks access to the Mozilla foundation website.

Even sites using open free SSL certificates such as Let’s Encrypt are considered safe in Google Chrome but not Mozilla! At least Firefox has not yet started this type of actions against Chrome, so the blame is now on Google as default search engine in Firefox is still Google. This is because of competitions which are natural among players in every market, however, the competitors must not annoy users under any condition. If you check the privacy description of Google for such sites it states :

“We suggest you don’t enter any private or personal information on this page. If possible, don’t use the site.

Not secure: Proceed with caution. Something is severely wrong with the privacy of this site’s connection. Someone might be able to see the information you send or get through this site. You might see a “Login not secure” or “Payment not secure” message.

Dangerous: Avoid this site. If you see a full-page red warning screen, the site has been flagged as unsafe by Safe Browsing. Using the site will likely put your private information at risk.”

Its screenshot is here. According to Google the error which blocked Mozilla was “NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID” stating that the site owner can’t prove its identity. We also checked the site through other browsers like Opera and IE where both accessed the site successfully.

Update: After several minutes the Chrome identified the Mozilla site as secure and let the users access the contents.
